The grass is finally becoming a vibrant green in the Midwest. Spring fever is in full force. Athletes playing baseball, soccer, tennis, and other spring sports are enjoying the warmer days. However, my figure skating and hockey friends are still bundling in many layers. When we step out into the sun, we feel a renewed energy and are ready for a fresh start.

The Produce Section
Fresh berries, melons and seasonal vegetables are a great start to fulfilling that promise you made to eat healthier. They are energizing snacks before your child’s practice or games. Berries in yogurt or cereal help round out a nutritious breakfast. You can add fresh fruit or raw vegetables as an easy dinner or side dish without extra cooking. This is a great way to save time on busy mornings and evenings.
Give everyone a fresh start by trying new seasonal recipes this spring.
Deep Clean
We think of thoroughly spring cleaning our homes. This is also the perfect time to clean your athlete’s gear. Some pads and helmets may benefit from more than disinfectant spray. Take the time to deep clean the items yourself. If possible, locate a service like Fresh Gear that will do the more challenging cleaning for you.

If You Have a Moment
Try something new.
Perhaps as the season changes your child would like to try a new sport. If their schedule and your finances allow, trying a new activity can be a growth experience for your athlete. They will benefit from the extra exercise. New skills will be learned. There will be an opportunity to make new friends. The new sport may become their passion they carry with them through their school years and beyond.
While your children are in school, you may want to take a short session to learn a new skill yourself. Follow a tutorial on YouTube or learn from a professor on Coursera or another educational platform. Enroll in a class at your local park district, community college, or library.
Maybe a new pair of shoes, rearranging your living room furniture, or a different hairstyle is all you have energy for this spring. Go for it!
Get Outside
A walk in a National Park, a local neighborhood, or a garden is uplifting in the spring. On your own or with family or friends, take a walk or bike ride and enjoy the fresh start nature has prepared for you.

Have an amazing spring!
